Work, Worship and Witness Trip

November 28 - December 3, 2006

hurricane katrina relief team

Thirty volunteers from two countries and ten congregations traveled to New Orleans on Tuesday, November 28 for Hurricane Katrina relief work. Volunteers from Messiah-St. Bartholomew and All Saints' will accompanied others from Christ Church and Atonement. Additionally, a large group flew in from St. Matthew's Church Wesminster to help us expand our partnership, involving another province in the Anglican Communion.

Team leader Joey Sylvester, an All Saints' parishioner, led the mission trip which included house gutting and community outreach through our partnering parish, St. Luke's New Orleans. This trip also included community organizing at a housing summit being held at the New Orleans Convention Center.

St. Augustine's Metairie hosted the crew and a new video is being produced by Kevin Goodman, the All Saints' curate. St. Andrew's Downer Grove, a partner in the Diocese of Chicago, has given a generous donation of support and we look forward to working with them in New Orleans and along the gulf coast during future trips.

The next trip is scheduled for the Week of April 9th.
